Comments:I am a proud ASA veteran. I enlisted in the Army in May of 1965. Yes... "RA"..did not want to be drafted. I did my basic training at Ft.Leonard Wood, Mo. Co. "C"-2-3. My next stop was the Defense Language Institute West Coast Branch at the Presidio of Monterey, Ca. for 37 weeks of Chinese Mandarin, graduating in May of 1966. I was then sent to the Air Force Security Service school at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Tx. for Voice Intercept Processing Specialist course (ALK20331). Completed in September 1966. I was then assigned to Co. "A" USASA Support Group USA at FT. G.G. Meade,Md. My MOS was O4B2L20 (translator/interpreter) with duty at the National Security Agency from 1966 to 1969. Attended National Cryptological School at NSA: Communist Chinese Area Studies and Signal Intelligence Reporting. One of my main reasons for joining all the groups that I have joined is to find old ASA Army friends and co-workers from the NSA. Raymond D. Arnold MOS: 98Z50 In-Country

Dave Blair MOS: 05G30 In-Country Dates: Platoon: 1st Platoon Comments: While in DaNang I spent most of my time out in the field at various MACV teams and SF Camps about half the time. The mission changed about March of 69 and we started spending more time out as two person teams sitting side-saddle with radio ops at the various units making on the spot corrections. As a result, we only sent out one full team a month and the rest of the guys went every which way. After Mike Lynch left DaNang, I became the Senior Analyst. That meant I ended up spending four or five days a month in Saigon working on getting our reports approved and published. I was to leave Nam in Oct 69 but when I was allocated to Ft. Hood, I extended for 4 1/2 months so I could get out 5 months early. In early Oct 69 it was decided the DaNang Plt would combine with the company attached to the 101st Air Mobile and move to Phu Bai. During the phase out of DaNang it was decided that I would stay behind with two other guys to close up the hotel which was leased until Feb of 70. Tough duty those last two months. Then we all went to Vietnam on the same plane. I was in the 328th RRC (Americal Division) in Chu Lai from Sep 68 until Nov 69. Then I moved to the 2d Platoon of the 101st RRC working II Corps out of Nha Trang until May 71. The next month I spent at Tan Son Nhut, but I don't recall much of what I was supposed to be doing there. After that, I went back to the world and got out. COMSEC people were like family then, and still are.
